Hi there!I’m Tristan, a non-profit data scientist and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) specialist with over 9 years of experience in the humanitarian and advocacy sectors.
Services I offer
I’m here to help your organisation make better use of data, and improve how you capture, understand and showcase the impacts of your work. The services I offer fall broadly into two areas:1. Helping to design, develop and improve the systems you use for impact measurement and MELI have extensive experience of developing MEL frameworks and strategies for non-profits across a range of sectors, geographies, and at various stages of their ‘data journeys’. This includes developing and refining organisational and programmatic Theories of Change - which articulate the changes you wish to see in the world, and the ways that your organisation contributes to these - and their accompanying results frameworks - which are the practical tools that allow you to understand whether you are achieving those aims.I can also help transform these strategies into working systems, processes and practices - namely, data collection tools, connected databases, impact dashboards, storyboards, and interactive maps, and various kinds of impact reports - and embed these into your organisation through effective staff training.
2. Providing independent assessment and evaluation of your workI can also help by providing your organisation with independent assessments of different aspects of your work. This can come in the form of project and programme evaluations (for which I have experience conducting mixed methods evaluations, at baseline, mid-term, endline, and ex-post timeframes); needs assessments (to better understand populations’ and service users’ needs); stakeholder and power mapping (to better understand the contexts in which, and actors with whom, you work); and MEL/data audits (to identify the strengths and weaknesses of how you use data, and opportunities to improve this). I also have experience of writing impact reports for a number of organisations (see here, here, here, here, and here for samples), and training staff to make better use of data and no- and low-code solutions in their work.

I am proficient in a range of software and platforms and able to combine these to meet your unique impact-related needs - from research design and preparation, to data collection, data cleaning, processing, analysis, and visualisation, database management, mapping, report production and output design, and no-code app building. Here's some of the platforms that I love to work with:
past clients
I’ve worked in full-time MEL/data-related positions since 2016, with Choose Love, IMPACT Initatives, Y Care International and Muslim Aid.Most recently, I completed a long-term consulting project with Open for Business - an LGBTQ+ advocacy and research organisation - that provided them with a new impact strategy, impact measurement framework for their programmes, and an integrated impact measurement system hosted in Airtable. As part of this consultancy, I conducted an audit of the organisation’s existing systems and practices for impact measurement; delivered a recommendations report that informed the subsequent development, roll-out, and staff training for the new system; and wrote their 2023-24 and 2024-25 annual impact reports.
